TeX is a typesetting system that was written by Donald E. Knuth. He began work on TeX in , and says in the Preface to the TeX Book, that it is “intended for the creation of beautiful books-and especially for books that contain a lot of mathematics”. It explains a lot of how the TeX engine works. I really just started to understand some of the fine mechanics of it after reading this book.
